Post Concussion Syndrome (PCS) is defined by a long list of symptoms following a concussion. These symptoms include headaches and migraines, insomnia, difficulty concentrating, impaired cognition, irritability and other emotional/behavioral issues. These symptoms can last for weeks and sometimes even months after the initial concussion.  A concussion is a mild traumatic brain injury that is caused by an extreme blow to the head or body that shakes the brain inside the skull.  Concussions can result in loss of consciousness but that is not the case with all concussions.
Medical Cannabis and Post-Concussion Syndrome
Cannabis is an excellent choice in treating the symptoms of PCS.  Indica dominant strains can relieve headaches and assist patients in sleep.  Sativa dominant strains can help with patient’s emotions symptoms like depression and irritability.  Topical ointments and balms have shown to be effective in treating headaches simply by rubbing on the temples.  Topicals can be are excellent because they do not produce any psychoactive effects while still being therapeutic.  It is important to mention that some patients bay be very sensitive to higher THC strains and can actually worsen their headaches. Finding an appropriate strain is very important.
