Neurofibromatosis

Neurofibromatosis
Neurofibromatosis (NF) is a genetic disorder affecting the nervous system that causes tumors to form on nerve tissue.  These tumors are often noncancerous however some can become malignant and can develop anywhere in the brain, spinal cord or nerves. There are three variations of Neurofibromatosis:
Type I – Nerve tissues grow tumors that can cause serious damage by compressing nerves and other tissues
Type II – Tumors develop on nerves that carry sound and balance information from the inner ear to the brain resulting in hearing loss, tinnitus, vertigo, pain, facial dropping, and numbness/tingling in arms and legs
Schwannomatosis Schwannomatosis causes painful tumors called schwannomas to develop on cranial, spinal and peripheral nerves, but not on the nerve that carries sound and balance information from the inner ear to the brain
Medical Cannabis and Neurofibromatosis

Medical cannabis is an effective treatment option for patients who are suffering from pain and inflammation stemming from Neurofibromatosis. Strains high in CBD can be excellent for treating nerve pain without psychoactive effects.  Heavier indica strains high in THC can also reduce nerve related pain and assist in sleep and reduction of stress or anxiety.  The cannabinoids found in the cannabis plant have shown to be responsible for slowing tumor growth and possibly even shrinking them.  This makes cannabis an excellent choice for the direct treatment of neurofibromatosis.  Cannabis concentrates and oils can used as a topical or ingested to reduce the size and spread of tumors.
