Interstitial Cystitis

Interstitial Cystitis
Interstitial Cystitis (IC) is a Chronic condition in which patients experience pressure or pain in their bladder or pelvis.  Interstitial cystitis exists when signals between the bladder and brain get mixed up creating the urge to urinate more often and with smaller volumes than most.  The average person is said to void liquid waste 7 times every 24 hours, but urination frequency can often reach 60 times per day for sufferers of cystitis. Typically interstitial cystitis effects women more commonly than men. Signs and symptoms include extreme pain in the bladder, pelvis and lower abdomen, a persistent urge to urinate, frequent urination throughout the day and night, pain during sexual intercourse.
Medical Cannabis and Interstitial Cystitis
Studies have shown that activation of the CB2 receptors has shown to inhibit inflammation. Inflammation of the bladder is a major component of Interstitial Cystitis and could be responsible for the frequent urgency to urinate. Because cannabinoids like THC and CBD activate CB2 receptors we can conclude that medical cannabis could be a viable form of treatment for patients suffering from IC.  Cannabis infused beverages are an excellent choice for patients suffering from IC.
