Hyrdocephalus

Hyrdocephalus
Hydrocephalus is a medical condition in which there is an abnormal accumulation of cerebrospinal fluid in the ventricles, or cavities of the brain. This condition is most common in infants and younger children but can be present in older adults.  The increased amount of fluid creates additional intracranial pressure inside the skull causing extreme pain, convulsions, tunnel vision, mental disability and even death in the most extreme cases.  Too much cerebrospinal fluid associated with hydrocephalus can damage brain tissues and cause a large spectrum of impairments in brain function. These are impairments that tend to last throughout the course of the patient’s condition/diagnosis.  Some patients undergo surgery to implant a shunt into the brain that allows for excess fluid to be drained. Sometimes additional surgery may be required on the shunt leaving patients with Chronic and unbearable headaches.
